Icebreaker Technical Tops Featuring “Featherweight Merino”

Despite our best efforts, there are still those who find themselves hard pressed to consider wearing merino wool when the mercury rises and the sun sits high in the summer sky. But now you’re all out of excuses. Icebreaker has extended its technical sports collection to include innovative new ultra-lightweight styles – ideal for any warm weather endeavor.

On Performance and Design…
We’ve ranted and raved about the performance of Icebreaker merino wool in every, and any season. We’ve told you time and again about the natural quick-drying and natural-antibacterial nature of the material that made merino wool the fabric of choice for heroes and legends of yore.

Icebreaker has always understood that when it comes to apparel, it’s all about functionality – better temperature regulation, mobility, sweat management, and fit. To continue meeting the performance demands of outdoor enthusiasts, Icebreaker has extended it’s technical sports collection to include featherweight designs.

Icebreaker Technical Tops Featuring “Featherweight Merino”

Made from Icebreakers lightest, finest weight of merino, the Aero technical tops and the Sonic Short Sleeve Crew and Sonic Tank are all made from a luxuriously soft and featherweight fabric. Featuring anti-chafe flatlocked seams and all the benefits of Mother Nature’s best fabric, these tops help you stay cool, comfortable and free of distractions—so you can focus on the  adventure at hand. Icebreaker also added a touch of LYCRA in the Sonic line for an even better all-around athletic fit.

These garments have already become a staple in our warm weather adventures and lived up to their billing as a stellar companion even during hot summer days.

Notes from the Field…
From freakishly hot days in the Desolation Wilderness, to morning runs on the beaches of Maui, these technical tops earned their keep day in and day out. They’ve lived up to their billing and have already become a staple in our warm weather adventures. However, there is one critique that comes along with the new featherweight design.

The finer merino weight also means a slightly thinner fabric which doesn’t seem to be up to the same level of harsh treatment as every other Icebreaker we’ve put through the paces. During one climb session, our Aero top confronted a granite chimney. In this particular instance, the granite slab came out the winner leaving us with the consolation prize of a few tears on the back shoulder. Clearly, granite wins most battles, but when you shell out a few extra bucks for a merino technical top, such a defeat tastes a little more sour than usual.

Bottom Line…
The featherweight line of Icebreaker technical apparel exemplifies the beautiful blend of functionality and real world performance that every outdoor enthusiast will appreciate.
