On days when the mercury goes into hiding, or there’s a nip in the air and you need to travel fast and light, the Thermostatic Jacket from Mountain Hardwear is designed to give you you maximum warmth in a minimalist design.
On Performance and Design…
In the continuous battle of down versus synthetic insulation, Mountain Hardwear’s Thermostatic Jacket for men and women utilizes the power Thermal.Q™ Elite insulation. This 60 grams of Thermal.Q™ Elite is by no means your standard industry-issue synthetic insulation. No my friends, it’s science and innovation at its very best:
Twenty percent warmer than the standard industry synthetic, Thermal.Q™ Elite is ultra warm while remaining extremely light and packable. Even when you’re confronting damp, drizzly conditions like those along the Monterey Coastline, this jacket locks in warmth. All that, and the Thermostatic’s compressibility factor is akin to that of down, so you can stow it in its own pocket and pack it away without sacrificing space.
An ultralight ripstop nylon exterior wraps up this wonderful warmth with durability that doesn’t weigh you down. The nylon exterior glides easily under layers for a smooth fit and the DWR coating helps resist any weather that you’ll encounter at the summit. Its collar rides high up your neck for additional warmth and cold weather-protection, and two hand pockets keep your hands toasty.
In other words, this is one jacket that rolls with the punches whether you’re determined to rediscover that isolated Alpine lake of your youth, or you’re making an evening walk to the local art museum in January (how sophisticated of you!).
And just because you like to spend your time bagging peaks doesn’t mean you need to abandon your sense of style. Towards those ends the Mountain Hardwear team offers both the men and women’s Thermostatic jacket in a broad array fun and vibrant colors as well as a hooded version.
Notes from the Field…
This synthetic powerhouse has proven to be a stellar performer. It’s been warm enough to relegate our 800 fill down jacket to the back of the closet, while light enough to accompany us on every Sierra Summit we’ve made this Fall.
The Thermostatic Jacket features a standard fit that gently drapes off the body, making it an easy fit particularly when layering underneath. However, the Thermostatic will feel slightly boxy through the torso for those who prefer a more athletic cut that fits closer to the body.
We have found that the Thermostatic jacket managed to live up to it’s namesake in providing healthy dose of static charge when slipping into or out of the jacket. This is particularly true if your baselayer of choice is a synthetic fabric.
Bottom Line…
Need a layer lighter than your bulky insulator jacket, and a more versatile too? Reach for the Thermostatic Jacket from Mountain Hardwear.
