Running socks are nearly as integral to a runner’s performance as a decent pair of running shoes. Choosing the wrong pair of socks could lead to an uncomfortable run, with hot feet leading to a difficult experience and detracting from the enjoyment of your run.
Although some runners prefer thin minimalist socks for a “lighter” feel, others prefer a slightly thicker sock for additional cushioning. If you fall into that second camp, then the Sedona micro (men’s version is the Taos Micro) from Goodhew has a touch more cushioning for longer runs while offering the breathability and comfort to to urge you on that extra mile.
If you’ve never worn a sock crafted from Alpaca fiber you’re in for a treat. Alpaca fiber is not only warmer than Merino wool, it is more abrasion resistant offering a strength and resilience that cotton and Merino simply can’t match. Goodhew blends the Alpaca fiber with lamb’s wool creating a soft, durable partner for your high performance feet.
In addition to high-quality Alpaca fiber and lamb wool, all Goodhew socks are manufactured with a touch of Spandex (4% in the Sedona and Taos) throughout the entire sock. This assures the wearer of a snug fit that lasts as long as you do out on the road.
The cushioning in the Sedona micro is strategically placed primarily around the heel and toe area. This helps to dissipate some of the pressure normally associated with these points – which was especially useful for our gumption gal who wore them during her transition to a more minimalist styled shoe.
As we all know, a few things can be more meddlesome and irritating than a bulky toe seam which is why our review team loved Goodhew’s flat toe seams. Add to that breathable mesh panels to help aerate your feet and you’ve got one comfortable running partner.
With Spring 2012 right around the corner, consumers can also expect an updated style of the Sedona and Taos (images below). With a variety of colors available, this line of socks provides enough comfort and color to keep your sock drawer fully loaded with all of this “Made in the U.S.A.” goodness.
Room for Improvement…
Our review team did have a few gentle critiques – more like observations- about the Sedona. First, it should be noted that the downside of a running sock with extra cushioning is that it may mildly detract from the runners ability to have a natural feeling point of contact with the ground. The only other critique centered on the arch support. While the Sedona comfortably hugged the foot, our review team didn’t feel as though the arch support was as snug as some other running socks our team has vetted.
Bottom Line…
The Sedona and Taos Micro from Goodhew are so soft and comfortable, that once you slip them on you may decide to skip your run. In the instance you continue on to rack up the miles however, your feet will be cushioned in comfort.
