GU Energy

Standing between you and victory, there it stands. It can hit you like ten tons of bricks, insurmountable… impassible…. dreadful…. It can happen at any time.  Your legs fail, your senses take full leave and a full-blown bodily insurrection takes hold – you’ve hit “the wall”.  Hitting the wall or “bonking” is an unmistakable sensation. It’s caused by the depletion of glycogen stores resulting in sudden fatigue and a loss of energy during exercise. The good news is that it’s also completely avoidable.

GU, the Berkeley-based sports nutrition company, started in the early 80s with their original GU Energy Gel, a revolutionary product and an effective method to keep athletes fueled during exercise. Since then, GU has continued to improve the recipe, incorporating the latest scientific research into its products, adding GU Electrolyte Brew, GU Recovery Brew and Chomps Energy Chews to the product line, and striving to do one thing: help athletes go faster and longer than ever before, and helping them to avoid that “hit the wall” moment.

Video: Unearthly Passage – Lower Antelope Slot Canyon

posted by gumptiongear July 20, 2012 0 comments

No other slot canyon in the southwest has been featured in more photographs or has been visited more than Antelope Canyon, which is sometimes referred to as “The Corkscrew.” Situated in the far north and central region of Arizona, the canyon is just a few miles from Page, Arizona and scenic Lake Powell. Set on Navajo lands, the canyon is a great destination for hikers.

This incredible canyon has been created over many thousands of years by the relentless forces of water and wind, slowly carving and sculpting the sandstone into forms, textures, and shapes which we observe today.

The video, shot by  offers a glimpse into the incredible beauty of this place.

Your choice of smartphones shouldn’t be a factor that limits or determines what adventures you can pursue.   To solve this problem, LifeProof™ has designed cases for your iPhone and iPad that provides uncompromised protection and functionality under almost any conditions.

California’s Great Central Valley, with its rich agricultural land, diverse climate and topographically flat valley floor, is known as the breadbasket of the world.  Come summer, the Central Valley is also a virtual oven, infamous for heat waves spanning several weeks with temperatures regularly reaching 105°F. With temperatures that high, you can literally cook an egg on the asphalt.

Training in this type of heat can be daunting leaving outdoor enthusiasts and athletes alike searching for new performance gear and techniques to help keep them cool and reduce the physical stress of training in such harsh conditions.  When Columbia Sportswear introduced our team an opportunity to review the Solar Polar Short Shirt featuring Omni-Freeze technology, ideas of running through hell while cloaked in ice danced in our head.
