Injinji Performance Toesocks™ Review

posted by gumptiongear June 25, 2012 0 comments

“The human foot is a masterpiece of engineering and a work of art.” – Leonardo da Vinci

The human foot has 26 bones, 33 joints, 107 ligaments, 19 muscles and tendons. The 52 bones in your feet make up about 25 percent of all the bones in your body.  Despite this intricate design, we’ve treated our feet and toes like clowns in a circus car.  Yet, for athletes and outdoor enthusiasts alike,  there’s nothing funny about the fact that the very nature of the traditional tube sock may work against your feet’s natural form and function.

Injinji Footwear offers patented Performance Toesocks™ that are designed to enable the human foot – from the heel to the five toes – to function naturally and efficiently inside a shoe.   The key design principle in the development of the Injinji toesock was to create the best possible interface allowing the entire foot to perform naturally and freely inside our shoes, just like being barefoot. ashmei Trail Running Socks

Socks lead difficult and thankless lives. They are expected to perform flawlessly for hours on end under harsh and sometimes abusive working conditions. Much like the hard-working coal miner, socks are subjected to dark, dingy, and claustrophobic confines. After forcing them to perform in these conditions, we peel them off, roll them up and toss them into the funk factory (aka hamper) only to endure countless wash cycles.  All the while, we expect them to look and fit as great as they did on day one.

It takes a lot to be a sock, and even more so to be a performance sock.  Ready for the dauntless task of serving your hard working feet, ashmei has designed a new performance trail sock crafted from high-tech materials they believe is better prepared to perform under the harsh working conditions they will endure.

Darn Tough Vermont Socks

posted by gumptiongear February 29, 2012 0 comments

More than ever athletes and outdoor enthusiasts alike are realizing that the quality of their socks are just as important as the quality of their shoes. Deciding which pair is best for you, however, can prove to be a daunting task.

As with most gear, finding the “right” pair of socks – the ones that work best for your activity, weather conditions, and your feet – has as much to do with personal preferences as it does performance. Select the “right” pair and your feet will happily take you through your training session or outdoor adventure. However, if your feet aren’t comfortable, then you won’t be comfortable nor will your excursion be as sweet. That being said, having had the opportunity to spend many a mile in both running and hiking specific socks from Darn Tough, your normal sock choosing preference might be about to change.

Goodhew Sedona & Taos Micro Performance Socks

posted by gumptiongear February 2, 2012 0 comments

Running socks are nearly as integral to a runner’s performance as a decent pair of running shoes. Choosing the wrong pair of socks could lead to an uncomfortable run, with hot feet leading to a difficult experience and detracting from the enjoyment of your run.

Although some runners prefer thin minimalist socks for a “lighter” feel, others prefer a slightly thicker sock for additional cushioning. If you fall into that second camp, then the Sedona micro (men’s version is the Taos Micro) from Goodhew has a touch more cushioning for longer runs while offering the breathability and comfort to to urge you on that extra mile.

Teko Running Socks

“Happiness is not a matter of intensity but of balance, order, rhythm and harmony.”  Thomas Merton

As athletes we are constantly seeking the perfect balance… that moment of harmony in which passion, energy, training  and effort all meld seamlessly into performance.  When your feet are uncomfortable, it’s difficult to perform at the top of your game. After all, your feet propel you forward, stabilize you, and put power behind your movements.  Wouldn’t it be nice to find a sock that not only unites performance and comfort, but does so by utilizing environmentally-friendly materials, sources and methods of production and packaging?  That my friends makes for happy feet.

Point6 Hiking Tech Medium Crew Merino Socks

posted by Gumption Scott December 16, 2011 0 comments

It has come to our attention that there are some out there still clinging to the folklore of false pretense surrounding wool socks. Like those clinging to the myths of the Minotaur, the Unicorn and the Lock Ness Monster some believe that wool is too hot, too bulky, too scratchy or just plain too old-school for a world of adventure.

If you find yourself in that camp then it’s our great pleasure to introduce you to Point6 and their 100-percent compact spun yarn.  You see, not all wool is created equal.  The Point6 compact spun yarn produces more merino fibers per inch thereby creating an incredibly soft end result that is never scratchy, itchy or bulky

Point6 Ultra Light Micro: The Velvet Glove Treatment for Runners Feet

posted by gumptiongear December 10, 2011 0 comments

A bad pair of socks can wreck a run. They can cover your feet unevenly or fail to protect your skin from the chafing and excess moisture that causes nasty blisters. With so much time and technology (not to mention cash) invested in your shoes, shouldn’t you expect more from your running socks?

Point6 understands that runners don’t want any unnecessary fluff between their foot and footbed. As such this company has gone to great lengths to create a line-up of performance socks specifically designed to support you in your run mile after mile. Our team vetted the Point6 men’s Ultra Light Micro Running sock – a minimalist styled sock designed for the runner who desires the least amount of sock in their running shoe.
